Bookazines July-December 2024

There’s nothing like making magazines that people consider worth a read or keeping around for years to come. Being able to include illustrations from Erik Reichenbach and Jef Castro, plus essays and images from Neal Preston, has been a bonus. For the Horses issue, I got to work with People colleagues Rennie Dyball and Susan Young, along with mini-horse enthusiast Mia Zanzucchi. For the Gone with the Wind special, there is a modern and needed essay from NPC critic Eric Degas. For the Billy Joel special, Mara Reinstein and I were able to interview members of Billy’s band and include images from tour photographer Myrna Suarez. To top it all off, Chuck Arnold spoke to Billy! Books and bookazines 2021 through February 2022

Although I have spent my whole career in the magazine business, I learned much more about it in 2021. That’s a good thing, I suppose, that I can still pick up new things this far along in my working life! Along with a core team of writers, editors, and illustrators, I’ve helped conceive, edit, and write 10 bookazines for Jacket LLC and 10TenMedia, distributed by Bauer North America. And there’s more to come! Thank you to the Pod for making these possible.

Below the collection of covers is the main cover and masthead for ESL: Moving to the Next Level, a commemorative bookazine for the Electronic Sports League’s 20th anniversary. I helped edit and wrote four stories for this issue, available in a digital presentation through Zinio and on ESL’s main site.

I had the thrill of putting together a fantastic team to create this 98-page commemorative issue on Prince Philip, which hit newsstands at the same time as treatments from People and other established brands. You’ll see more of our work later this year.
